G7 Ranch / Field manual no. 01
Good chewing starts with good judgment.
Antler is not right for every dog.
Choose a softer chew for puppies, senior dogs, dogs with worn or damaged teeth, dogs with dental disease, or dogs that clamp down and try to crush hard objects.
Choose a piece larger than the mouth
Your dog should not be able to fit the full chew inside the mouth or attempt to swallow it. When between sizes, choose the larger piece.
Supervise the entire chew session
Stay close enough to see and hear how your dog is chewing. Take the antler away if they begin biting down forcefully instead of scraping or gnawing.
Inspect before and during use
Check for cracks, sharp edges, splintering, heavy wear, or contamination. Natural variation is normal; damage that could cut or be swallowed is not.
Know when to retire it
Remove and discard the chew once it is small enough to swallow, develops a crack or sharp point, or no longer gives your dog a safe grip.
Keep sessions measured
Start with short supervised sessions and watch how your dog responds. Chewing style can change as a dog becomes more excited or tired.
Keep it clean
Wipe the chew with warm water and let it dry completely. Do not boil or bake antler; heat can change its structure and may make it more brittle.
Dental guidance matters.
Veterinary dental organizations warn that very hard chews—including antlers—can fracture teeth. G7 Ranch does not claim antlers clean teeth or improve health. Safe use depends on the individual dog.
